Our friends Lynette Shy and Megan Wurtz of Confluence Arts Solutions (CAS) joined ASI in presenting a hands-on marketing workshop designed to support small, under-resourced, or over-burdened arts and culture marketers with a navigable plan for developing efficient systems for effective marketing.

Throughout their presentation, the CAS team shared valuable insights on the following high-level concepts that were thoroughly explored in the dynamic and practical workshop session;

  • The secret is out – marketing involves everything within your organization! As marketing professionals, we need to analyze our marketing to-do list and develop (for ourselves and for our leadership) a comprehensive assessment of which tasks are worth our resources and energy or what it’s time to cut out.

  • Organization and communication are the key to success. Keep yourself on track with the tasks that you have decided are worthy of your time through physical notes for ourselves (imagine a calendar covered in post-its) and a digital calendaring system (like Asana) to share with our team.

  • You will be more effective in sharing your mission and educating your audience, through a structured, proactive practice approach versus working in a reactive state. If you feel like you’re chasing your own tail, schedule time to find the best practices for you and your team.

  • Attending workshops exposes you to a community of people who have the same experiences and questions as you. We all have something to learn from each other and we don’t have to feel like we’re going at it alone!

  • And last, but not least, a special note from our presenter, Megan Wurtz; “If I could leave our participants with one thought, it would be to remember that your work in the Arts and Culture can change the world, and you provide so much for your communities! Your work is important, so treat your tasks as such and give them the time to be fully thought through and well executed. Future you will thank you for taking the time to set up your tasks!”

Meet the Presenter

Megan Wurtz stands at the unique intersection of arts and business, bringing a fervent passion to both fields.
