If you’ve ever wondered how your organization’s salaries and benefits compare to similar nonprofits, here’s a resource worth exploring… The 2026 New York State Nonprofit Compensation Survey offers organizations the opportunity to contribute confidential salary and benefits data while helping build a stronger understanding of nonprofit compensation across New York.
The New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON) and Nonprofit New York (NPNY) have partnered on this initiative – a first-of-its-kind collaboration.
Why Participate?
Reliable compensation data helps nonprofit leaders make more informed decisions about salaries, benefits, budgeting, recruitment, and retention. By participating in the survey, your organization will anonymously contribute to a statewide dataset that supports stronger planning and benchmarking across the sector.
Organizations that complete the survey by August 4, 2026 will also receive the Compensation Report at no cost (a $500 value). The full report allows nonprofits to compare compensation practices by organization size, mission, and region, providing valuable context for leadership and board discussions.
Why Western New York’s Participation Matters
The value of this survey depends on participation from organizations across the state – including Western New York.
When more nonprofits from WNY contribute data, our region is better represented in the statewide findings. Strong participation also increases the likelihood that participating organizations will receive a complimentary regional compensation report (if there is sufficient participation from Western New York).
To put it simply, the more organizations that participate, the more useful the data becomes for everyone.
A Few Things to Know
