Want to get your message out into the world? This workshop will cover the essentials of writing letters to the editor, opinion pieces, and press releases. Learn what types of submissions local news sources accept, how to craft a compelling piece, and the steps to get published.

Plus, participants will have the opportunity to submit a draft op-ed after the workshop for personalized feedback! 

While participation in this workshop is free, we do ask for a $10 deposit, which will be refunded upon attendance or if cancellation is made with more than 24 hours’ notice. Please note that this workshop is limited to 30 participants.

Meet the Presenter

Dejia Marie James is Director of Policy Advancement and Media with PPG. A native Buffalonian whose family emigrated to the city from Havana, Cuba in the 1960s, she is dedicated to advocating for underrepresented communities and creating free autonomous spaces for constructive support of marginalized peoples. She has been featured in local and national conferences and led community coalition-based policy initiatives leading to the passage of legislation on local municipal and state level government.

In addition, she is host of The Public Good, a weekly radio show and podcast, on WUFO 96.5, Youtube and podcast platforms, revealing the real faces and spaces of community work; connecting their stories to national social issues relevant to Western New Yorkers and the rest of the world. Dejia Marie aims to help community tell their story through creative mediums.
