We are excited to introduce our very first Springboard Fellow, Audrey Parker who will begin work with JJAM Sessions this year.

JJAM Sessions is a 301(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing an inclusive, joyful environment for individuals of all abilities to thrive creatively. Located in spacious studios in the First Presbyterian Church in East Aurora, JJAMs meets every Monday and Thursday, from 6-7pm. For information on classes, private lessons, volunteering, or donations, please contact Joan Barten at (203)246-4989 or online at jjamsessions.com.

Audrey is an aspiring artist and unmarried mother of a one-year old. She hopes to continue her studies in visual arts and psychology but needs work experience to get into the program. Yet, she is struggling to find work in the arts that will cover at least her childcare costs making it impossible for her to get this vital work experience.

Through this experience, Audrey has taught art classes, planned events and exhibitions, and worked on strategic partnerships to expand the impact of the program. She began her fellowship with JJAM in April 2023.

“I love the work that I do with JJams. The creativity, the connections, and the joyfulness present in the studio are heart-warming.  I’m inspired by the students in every class. In the short time I have been with JJams, I have learned skills that will serve me for years to come. Receiving the first Springboard Fellowship allowed me to build a resume towards my dream career, and explore a new interest I would not have had the opportunity to otherwise. This funding has made all the difference in my future, and I’m incredibly grateful for the financial support from ASI.”

Audrey Parker, JJAM Sessions' Springboard Fellow

ASI’s Springboard Fellowship provides a small stipend to both the individual providing work assistance to a nonprofit arts organization and the organization itself for providing training and mentorship. These stipends are designed to add value to the work being done and help offset the costs associated with taking temporary work, including parking and transportation, meals, childcare, and lost revenue from not working other jobs.

Congratulations to Audrey and the team at JJAM Sessions!
