The Alexander Technique was developed in 1890 by Frederick Mathias Alexander, an actor who used the power of posture and mindful movement to overcome debilitating voice loss after repeatedly performing Shakespeare for crowds. Since then, the Alexander Technique has been used by musicians, actors, and non-arts folk alike to improve air flow, vocal focus, and confidence during public speaking. During this session, certified Alexander Technique teacher Michael Serio will lead attendees in simple exercises using the principles of the Alexander Technique that, if maintained, will lead to reduction of stress, prevention of repetitive use injuries, and alleviation of back and neck pain.

During this session, attendees will:

  • Participate in movement based activities based in the practice of Alexander Technique
  • Learn how to incorporate elements of the Alexander Technique into their daily lives for a number of positive outcomes
