Adapting Programming for Individuals of All Abilities

This presentation will help attendees develop an understanding of individuals with special needs, how to support inclusion for these individuals, and differentiate instruction as it pertains to art instruction. Participants will also learn how to foster independence, create a conducive learning environment, and provide modifications.

Amy is a married mother of two daughters and lives in Orchard Park. Amy has years of experience working with individuals of all abilities. She has coached several Special Olympic teams, taking her teams to the State games. She has worked as an aide to students on the spectrum as well as a preschool teacher. She is currently the program director and teacher of Little Learners Preschool program at We Rock the Spectrum in Derby. Her compassion and dedication to children shine through in every avenue that she has entered. She is so thrilled to be collaborating with such a strong group of women to make the dream of The Collaborative Community Mission a reality. It is through this nonprofit organization that she aspires to reach and provide support to many families in need.

Jessica Sills, MS, CCC-SLP/L, Speech-Language Pathologist

Jessica is a married mother of two girls, who lives in Derby, NY. Jessica graduated with her Bachelor’s in Journalism and Mass Communication from St. Bonaventure University in 2004, and her Master’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders from SUNY Fredonia in 2008. She has worked for Erie 2 BOCES and Lake Shore Central, and currently provides fee-for service for early intervention and preschool-aged students. Jessica and her husband Jeff established We Rock the Spectrum Kid’s Gym Buffalo in 2015 as a resource for the WNY community. Jessica is constantly striving toward providing accessible services to all children in need, so that they can function to the best of their abilities. She is beyond excited to be taking her passion of serving others to the next level through The Collaborative Community Mission, alongside the most amazing group of dedicated women and fearless leaders.

Our Mission: To foster relationships among a diverse community of caregivers and professionals that promote learning and child development through accessible programming, resources, and expertise. What We Offer: Access to authentic opportunities for children of all abilities and backgrounds to interact with their peers in a variety of age-appropriate activities that promote physical activity, social interactions, and a broadening development of foundational skills. These opportunities include, but are not limited to: music therapy classes, speech-language enrichment classes, sensory-friendly events, life skills classes, yoga, and so much more! We also provide caregivers and professionals with education and support through a comprehensive and collaborative approach.
